Personal:

Dr. Mark Hernandez was born and raised in Houston, where he attended the University of St. Thomas, majoring in Biology and Philosophy. He then attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, also in Houston before moving to Austin to train in internal medicine at The University of Texas Medical Branch Austin at Brackenridge Hospital. He has worked as a primary care internist, a hospitalist and has held numerous leadership positions, including as the chief medical officer of the Travs County safety net system. He returned to primary care medicine in the summer of 2020, returning to his first calling in medicine.

Dr. Hernandez believes that the best outcomes happen when he partners with his patients, with him understanding their particular needs, and his patients understanding the medical treatment plan he recommends each step of the way.

When he is not caring for patients, Dr. Hernandez enjoys spending time with his wife Patti, his six children and three granddaughters. He likes to read, cook Cajun food and BBQ, and watch football. He is a follower of Christ, and strives to live his faith in his personal and professional life.
