Preventative Medicine
At Capital Medical Clinic, the physicians are focused on helping our patients live healthy and active lives. The aim of preventive medicine is to promote wellness, preserve good health, and prevent disease, injury, and disability through early detection and diagnosis. Our model is a care team approach which promotes collaboration between the patient, family, provider, care manager, and clinical staff.
Getting a yearly physical is the best way to prevent health problems before they advance. The physicians at Capital Medical Clinic require regularly scheduled physicals for their patients.
What can I expect from my annual physical?
Your next physical examination will include:
- comprehensive physical exam
- review of lab work
- blood pressure screening
- medication review
- immunization review
- mental health screening
- discussion of preventive screenings (such as colonoscopy, mammogram, heart saver CT, bone density, eye exam, etc.)
Unfortunately, Medicare will not pay for this service despite the overwhelming benefit that annual physicals provide. The patient will be responsible for the cost of the physical exam which is $215. Some supplemental insurances may cover this cost and you are encouraged to call your insurance company to check your covered benefits.
To supplement the physical, Medicare will allow one covered wellness visit annually. This does not replace the annual physical but rather focuses on education, screening, and vaccination update. A wellness visit does not address new health problems nor does it provide a physical exam.
