What led me to a membership model

After about a decade in a traditional practice, I realized the system was making it harder and harder to be the kind of doctor patients deserve. Even with excellent colleagues and wonderful patients, my days were often packed with short, back-to-back visits, followed by nights and weekends of charting, and the real loss was time—time to listen deeply, to look ahead instead of just reacting, and to sit with someone when things were complicated or frightening. I also saw the strain this pace put on my own family, and I knew that if I kept going this way, it would eventually change the kind of presence I could offer both at home and in the exam room.

I reached a turning point: either continue in a model that pushes us all toward rushed, reactive care, or redesign my practice around what matters most — time with you, thoughtful prevention, and real, lasting health partnerships. My core motivation has never been about numbers or billing; it has always been about being a trusted, steady presence in my patients’ lives, someone who helps prevent illness where possible and walks with them when health challenges arise. CMC Plus is my way of choosing that path. By shifting to a smaller membership practice, I can offer unhurried visits, same- or next-day visits when needed, proactive chronic disease management, and thorough preventive care, including comprehensive annual assessments and closer follow-up.

What I want this to mean for you is simple: you feel known, never rushed, and never alone in navigating your health. When something urgent comes up, I want you to be able to reach me more easily and know I’ll have the time to really listen and think things through with you. When we see each other for routine care, I want us to have enough space to look ahead—to focus on prevention, early detection, and long-term wellness, not just today’s problem. I know change—and choosing a new kind of practice—can feel uncertain, especially when it involves your health, and I don’t take lightly that I’m asking you to consider something different. My medical training, my commitment to evidence-based, thoughtful care, and my belief in long-term relationships are not changing; this membership model is simply the structure that allows me to live those values more fully with the patients who choose to join me.

Whether you’ve been under my care for years or are just getting to know me, if you’ve ever wished for a more personal, less rushed experience with your physician, I would be honored to have you consider joining me in this next chapter.

I’m a board-certified internal medicine physician who has spent more than a decade caring for adults in Austin, and the most meaningful part of my work has always been the long-term relationships — getting to know not just medical histories, but people’s stories, families, and what matters most to them. I grew up in Portland, Oregon, went to the University of Portland and Oregon Health & Science University, and trained at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, where I learned to care for the full spectrum of adult health, from routine prevention to complex conditions. Over the years, many patients have described me as professional, compassionate, knowledgeable, reliable, and relatable; what I enjoy most is listening carefully, explaining things clearly, and creating practical, personalized plans so you feel confident and supported in your health decisions. If you value a thoughtful, ongoing relationship with your doctor and see your health as something worth investing in, you’re the kind of patient I’ve built this practice for.

On a personal note…

My wife and our two young kids keep me grounded in the everyday joys and challenges of real life. Most of my free time now revolves around them — cooking with my wife when we can steal an early evening, playing ping pong and chess with my son, and learning acro partner tricks with my daughter, which keeps both of us laughing and on our toes. While some of my old hobbies (like watching and playing basketball, listening to 80s music, or enjoying a leisurely brunch) have taken a back seat during busy seasons, investing in my family and my patients is where I find the most meaning right now.
