What led me to a membership model

After almost 20 years in traditional practice, I realized the current healthcare system was making it increasingly difficult to be the kind of doctor my patients deserve. Even with excellent staff and wonderful patients, my days are often packed with back-to-back visits, followed by nights and weekends of charting.  I am unable to see my patients with acute concerns, and many routine follow-ups I end up delegating to our wonderful PAs.

The real loss was time — time to listen deeply, to look ahead instead of just reacting, and to sit with you when things were complicated or frightening.

I realized that if I didn’t change how my practice was structured, over time it would change the kind of doctor I could be for you, my patients — and that was not acceptable to me. I reached a turning point: I could continue down a path toward rushed, reactive care, or redesign my practice around what matters most — time with you, thoughtful prevention, and real, lasting health partnerships. It will hopefully also allow me to do this while still being able to have time to take care of myself and my family.

My core motivation has never been about numbers or billing; it has always been about being a trusted, steady presence in your life, someone who helps prevent illness where possible and walks with you when health challenges arise.

I grew up in Austin and consider myself an Austinite. After graduating Westlake High School, I attended Austin College receiving my undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Spanish. I went on to attend medical school at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, completing my residency at University of Texas Medical Branch-Austin. Following medical school, I received a Master of Public Health from University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health, Austin Campus in 2010.

I originally decided to pursue internal medicine because I enjoy taking care of and communicating with adults as well as the complexity of multiple medical problems. I enjoy primary care because of the longitudinal relationship with my patients and helping them reduce their risk of complications / health problems by medication or motivation.

I joined Capital Medical Clinic in 2015 to work in an environment that makes taking good care of patients easy and achievable. Prior to joining CMC, I worked academically with the Residency Program at University Medical Center at Brackenridge, now Dell Seton Medical Center while also in private practice at University Physicians Group. Capital Medical Clinic has been a good fit for me, and I feel like we take good care of patients.

I enjoy staying active on a statewide level and have held leadership positions with Texas American College of Physicians and Texas ACP Services in the past.  Even though lately I have not kept such a prominent role as life with patients and kids are busy, I continue to serve on several committees on the state and county level, primarily related to public health and public health policy.

On a personal note…

When I am not working, I love spending time with my children, Juliette and Luc, my husband and our dog Beaux. I also like watching movies and of course watching my son play soccer; and if I ever have free time, I enjoy reading, knitting, crocheting and crafting.
